COMPARATIVE STUDY OF EFFICACY OF ORAL TERBINAFINE ALONE AND ORAL TERBINAFINE WITH TOPICAL 8% CICLOPIROX OLAMINE IN ONYCHOMYCOSIS

Onychomycosis is a common fungal infection of nail plate caused by dermatophytes, non dermatophyte molds & yeasts. Tinea unguium on the other hand refers specifically to dermatophytes. represents 50% all disorders and 30% mycotic infections skin.1 It distributed worldwide with prevalence 3% 9%. generally considered as disease middle aged elderly affecting large significant number people. There has been recent increase in incidence well spectrum causative pathogens associated onychomycosis. 50 patients onychomycosis who attended our outpatient department were randomly selected. These equally divided into two groups A B. Patients group (25) given only oral terbinafine 250mg/once daily for 12 weeks. B weeks along 8% Ciclopirox Olamine lacquer which applied topically once at night. In present study combination therapy give high mycological cure rates than monotherapy. Combination (oral 250mg dose ciclopirox olamine lacquer) showed 70 % clinical rate 60 cure.
